Last week, we lost a large limb from one of the evergreen trees at the front of the farm property. These trees have been there forever and were one of the things I remembered most from visiting Steve’s grandparents on the farm when we were dating.
Steve and I had visited a new Christmas tree farm in our area earlier in the week and I was fascinated watching them put together the grave blankets and pillows. I told Steve that I would love to try making one for his grandparents using the tree branches from their farm. But, I said, I don’t know where to start. “Youtube it” he says.
Just a short while later, I’d watched a video tutorial and had started pulling random craft items from my stash – floral foam, a scrap of plywood, ribbon, plyers, tape, zip ties, and pruners. And a wheelbarrow full of branches trimmed off the fallen limb.

It took some trial and error, but I was able to pull together one that looked okay.

Steve, Bryce and I loaded it up into the bed of the truck and drove up the road to Livingston Cemetery where Steve’s grandparents are laid to rest.
I know it isn’t much, but it felt incredibly heartwarming to be able to give this small gift back to his grandparents – a gift from their farm.
