Weekend Project – Pie Safe

We have a small half bath/utility room right off of the kitchen that was Grandma Grace’s laundry room when the house was first built. We have a new larger laundry room in the addition that was built on before we bought the homestead, so we’ve never put a washer or dryer in the original laundry room.

Where Grace’s washer and dryer would have been we put an ugly plastic and metal shoe rack that served its purpose but just didn’t look great.

For some time, I’ve been on the hunt for an antique pie safe after seeing one in a magazine used for shoe storage. I’ve looked at several but they were either quite a drive from home or very pricey.

When this gorgeous 1880’s model showed up at a local antique store, just 15 minutes from home, I couldn’t believe our luck! And the price was less than 1/2 of what we’d seen other ones going for recently!

We picked it up Saturday afternoon and Steve made some repairs for me, fixing a split in the wood that ran across the whole top. He did a great job and it looks good as new. And it is sturdy as can be. I was so excited to move it into the little utility room today. And it fits perfectly!

There is a maker’s mark stamped on the back which reads:
