Naming the Farm

I don’t think I’ve ever shared the story behind our farm name. A farm, a little homestead, has been my dream my whole life. A little piece of land where we could raise our animals and grow all the things, where our family could gather and enjoy simple things.

I always told Steve that we’d have to name our little farm, although I didn’t have any idea what that name would be. I just had a feeling that the name would come to us when the time was right.

In the fall of 2018 when we heard that Steve’s grandparents farm (the home and a few acres) was coming up for sale, we knew that we wanted to do everything we could to make it our own. The farm had been sold after his grandparents’ deaths and parceled out – the fields, the woods, and the home separated. There were numerous obstacles and setbacks over the eight months that we worked to make it happen, so many tearful moments when it felt like it just wasn’t possible.

In the midst of one of those moments, early on in the process, I ran across this quote – “There’s no obstacle that true grit and Amazing Grace can’t overcome.”

What powerful words! With our grit and determination and God’s amazing grace, we were able to purchase our little piece of Heaven and start building our dreams here in April 2019. I knew as soon as I read those words what our farm would be called, many months before it was actually ours.

Three years later, I am still in awe every time I step out our door and see our dreams growing right before my eyes.

Steve’s grandparents, who owned our farm for decades, were Dean and Grace. Dean was a John Wayne fan. So we love how the farm name reflects them too – Grit & Grace. ♥️
