Five Gallon Bucket Garden

For the past several years, even before moving to the farm, I’ve tried to grow potatoes. I would love to grow enough to last our family all winter. But… I haven’t been very successful.

One year in town, we couldn’t find the potatoes when we went to dig them up! Don’t ask my how or why – I have no idea!

The first summer on the farm, we grew a few and I discovered how much I do not enjoy digging potatoes.

Last year, I tried planting them in kiddie pools. We hauled so much compost and soil to fill the pools and then we had a very small crop.

For this season, I’m going to try growing them in five gallon buckets. Our Sunday afternoon project this week was to built a stand for the buckets.

I found a great tutorial online that even included a cut list for the wood. I can’t wait to try it this summer!
